Hi Chris,
I haven't used console, nor am I sure what I'd look for there after a crash. Any suggestions?
I've been corresponding with the programmers at 24U, as you said they are very responsive. I am using it in 32-bit mode on Snow Leopard. Perhaps they will offer a new suggestion soon to track down or solve the program.
I don't know if there is quirk because of how we are using it, or if there is some sort of error in my script I am not aware of (I attached our scripts to an earlier posting).
The odd thing is, whether I use AppleScript itself to launch the script, or the Panorama database software, the launching program (Panorama or our script activating script) frequently crashes without warning or an error message. I can then re-activate the script which caused the crash and it will send perfectly the next time. The cause of intermittent crashes are always the hardest to track down.
I've never used Smile. I might try the OSAX on the Satimage site to see if that is any more reliable. If anyone has any suggestions after looking at my code, please let me know.
I also have considered trying to using Python, activated from AppleScript. Several people have suggested that as a good option.
I do use the program MaxBulk Mailer for large mailings sometimes. It is an excellent piece of software though it can use up a lot of disk space for large mailings. It is not very efficient in that area.
In our case, every single email sent is usually different, it is not a bulk mail in the usual sense, but custom emails individuals are activating to other individuals regarding animals needing to be rescued. In other words, every email is different, so a bulk mail option isn't appropriate even though we will be sending thousands of emails per day, they are all quite different in content and attachments.
Best wishes,
- Jeff

Smile takes a bit of getting used to but is powerful and quite stable - I'd rather use it than a stay-open script if possible. (I develop with Script Debugger, but I always keep Smile on the machine for testing.)
