Hello.
Sorry for posting a little bit late.
I started with applescript in the period which the AppleScript Language Guide (ASLG) were totally outdated. Nigel Garvey once recommend me reading it. Nowadays the ASLG is fairly up to date, it is free, it covers all the basics, and is fairly good as a reference. -It is also fairly short.
I recommend starting with it before reading other books.

If an idea can survive a bureaucratic review
and be implemented it wasn't worth doing.
