On 1/13/11 at 5:27 PM, Bruce Robertson <email@hidden> spake thusly:
Quite simply and obviously false.
It is clear - and convenient - for everybody following the thread. It is a common practice and preference.
It is a lot like toilet-paper rolling direction. You may have a
strong preference about what seems obvious to you.
But it is not a universal truth.
Top posting does not prevent chopping trailing detritus. There is no conflict.
Taken in order:
Your post is because a reader has to scroll down to read what
you are posting about i.e. one has to read from bottom to top
instead of top to bottom. I've met a few folks that read from
right to left but never met any that read from bottom to top.
It might seem so for you BUT you don't have the right to speak
for all others. A lot of us don't find it either clear or
convenient, just the opposite.
You obviously don't have a cat and if you do, it has yet to
discover the joys of unrolling a whole roll of paper. It will
sooner or later. The direction the paper comes off a roll has a
direct effect on how hard the cat has to work at it. If it's
hard it won't make a habit of it.
Superfluous statement.
The only part of your post I can agree with is the first
sentence of the last line.
I suggest the following reading:
RFC 1855 <http://www.dtcc.edu/cs/rfc1855.html>
Specifically section 3.1.1 bulleted item 10
If you don't know what the RFC's are feel free to ask.
