But if someone doesn't understand why it's far superior, the least they can do is to edit their quoted material and stop wasting bandwidth and disk space with multi-quoted messages that have no reason being there, as well as deleting footers that mailing lists and other such entities append to every message. The world is sick and tired of seeing replies that contain 1 line of new material and 2 pages of quoted junk just because people are lazy slobs.

Thankfully, there's the QuoteFix plugin for Mail. <http://code.google.com/p/quotefixformac/> Now I no longer have to manually go through the same ritual every time I reply of hitting forward-delete twice to get rid of the empty space at the top and then adding space down at the bottom before my .sig where my reply is *supposed* to go.

Actually, this is great. The top posting issue has been litigated ad nauseum over on the server list. Now it has come to this list. Oh and by the way, this thread has been hijacked twice. It started as an impossibly long thread about Go Tos, then it was hijacked by Variables vs. ...
that seem to go on forever. Finally it has been hijacked yet again by Top-posting. Sure has been fun for most of us.
