Hi Simon,
I just came across the dictionary of another browser I use (iCab, shareware). It contains the command
OpenURL v : Open a URL
OpenURL text : The URL to open.
[Flags integer] : Flags (currently ignored)
[FormData text] : Form data that is being Posted
[MIMEType text] : MIME type of the form data
[to alias] : File to save the downloaded data into
[toWindow integer] : The window where the URL should be opened. Use 0 for new window, -1 for top window, -2 for new Tab
This seems to be something Safari should support too. It would solve your problem immediately without jumping through JavaScript hoops.
Best
Thomas
