Hola, fellow AppleScripters.
The following survey has nothing to do with AppleScript. I want to know what other Mac software developers think about Apple and Mac OS.
I've been using Macs since September, 1991. So it's been 20 years. I have never purchased a single non-Apple computer since. When I was working on a Ph.D., I was of course the only Mac guy in the department. I was picked. I was kicked. I was punched. But I never even thought about switching to Windows.
For the first time in 20 years, I've had enough with Apple, Inc. and Mac OS. I'm done with Mac OS. I don't like Lion. It makes software development difficult. TextEdit sucks, which I often use to copy and paste code. Look at those ugly buttons (file info, create a folder, eject...) on the folder window that are all gray. I don't like the wireless keyboard, which is useless without a key pad. Every time they change the keyboard design, the location of the caps lock key changes. I have never used computer mice that come with Macs since 1999. They were delivering new Macs with a one-button computer mouse till what, 2005? I was using a two-button computer mouse already in 1999. Instead of using computer mice from Apple, I have four computer mice/trackballs from Logitech. By the way, my iMac 2 GHz G5, which I bought in August 2005 died before she had her third birthday.
The worst part of this company is Mac App Store. Some of the software reviewers are nothing but totally-untrained computer newbies. They don't know what they are talking about. If they don't, they say Bug #1, Bug #2, Bug #3... I had more than a dozen software updates/software titles that were on hold before they introduced Mac OS X Lion in July. I still have at least four software submissions that have been stuck for more than four months. One of them is stuck in the review process for 6 and a half months. Imagine what it's like waiting for that long. Their monitoring tools cause many problems. If they do, Mac App Store wants you to contact DTS for technical assistance to resolve issues. But if their monitoring tools cause problems, who should actually contact DTS? Apple software developers and Mac App Store reviewers are hypocritical. Their own software titles violate review guidelines they've created. And Mac App Store reviewers just close their eyes. The worst offender is, I say, Xcode. The Xcode installer accesses a prohibited location to install command-line tools. Mac OS X Lion violates review guidelines, too. If you press Command + Shift + #3, where do you get a desktop screenshot? It will go to Desktop, which is not allowed according to review guidelines. Finally, watch out for a jack ass at Mac App Store who goes by the name of Jason. He will go after you if you make negative comments about Mac App Store at developer's forums. If he finds out who you are, they will suddenly stop reviewing your software submissions. No, I'm not joking.
These days, I've been learning how to use Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 so that I can develop Windows applications. Most likely, I will buy a PC when Microsoft introduces Windows 8. I'm not even suggesting that I want other people to follow the suit.
So what do you think about Apple and Macs? _______________________________________________
