Hello Luther
For years I decipher dictionaries a different way.
If a feature is described as "read only", I assume that it is really read only. When there is no such comment for a feature, I check if I may write it. There are numerous features which are not flagged as read only but which are.
Just one example :
In System Events dictionary we may read :
alias n, pl aliases [inh. disk item > item] : An alias in the file system elements properties creator type (text) : the OSType identifying the application that created the alias default application (disk item) : the application that will launch if the alias is opened file type (text) : the OSType identifying the type of data contained in the alias kind (text, r/o) : The kind of alias, as shown in Finder product version (text, r/o) : the version of the product (visible at the top of the "Get Info" window) short version (text, r/o) : the short version of the application bundle referenced by the alias stationery (boolean) : Is the alias a stationery pad? type identifier (text, r/o) : The type identifier of the alias version (text, r/o) : the version of the application bundle referenced by the alias (visible at the bottom of the "Get Info" window)
default application is not flagged as read only but, as far as I know, it is.
