InDesign CS5 Next style is not applied

set applied paragraph style of first insertion point to "mystyle" doesn't work either. It also makes no difference whether I first insert the text and then apply the paragraph style or the other way around.

When talking to a text frame on an InDesign CS5 page:
I use following code to apply a paragraph style to the content of the text frame: set applied paragraph style of parent story to "mystyle"
The paragraph style is applied correctly. Unfortunately it seems that the next style which I pre-configured in the properties of the applied paragraph style (mystyle) is NOT applied. I was hoping/expecting the opposite, since the parent story contains a return character (which should be the trigger to apply the next style).
How can I script this to make it work?
