Applescript isn't exactly orphaned, but it hasn't been supported by Apple as well as many of us think it should be.

Even RegEXP, which used to be quite a challenge, is so much simpler, it seems.

After 20 years of practice and a few books like Mastering Regular Expressions?

Up to version 7.3 I believe. ;-)

And there's always MacVIM.
