I have some experience converting Mail messages (.emlx) to .pdf.
I was curious about this, so I quickly looked-up some basic facts.
gif files can be opened by Preview, so, I wonder if Preview is scriptable?
No, it's not. (And neither is Adobe Reader.)
Can Preview export (File/Export… menu) a .gif as .pdf ?
Yes. But you will need to use GUI scripting.
It seems that a workable solution would be to write a GUI script for Preview or Adobe Reader.
I dislike GUI scripting and have only written one (that converts .emlx to .pdf in Mail).
