If you were running 10.7 or later (please spare me a re-run of the lecture), you could do it directly in AppleScript Editor by opening a new Cocoa-AppleScript app, pasting in the code, and saving as an app. It would still run in 10.6.8. On 10.6.8, you could save it as a script called main.scpt and just replace the equivalent in a Cocoa-AppleScript app from someone running 10.7 or later. Or you could use Xcode -- but that's doing things the long way.
