So it seems to me that calling an applescript directly is more efficient than going through Automator.  Am I wrong?

I like Automator, and it has it's uses, but it just seems cumbersome to imbed an Applescript in a workflow.  And then anytime I need to edit the thing, well, stuff just starts getting wacky.

This article is simply wrong.  Calendar's open file notification works perfectly fine with Applescript application files.

Tested on 10.8.2, 10.8.3, and 10.8.4.

All you have to do is create an Applescript application.
