Continuing the battle, Play Sounds with script

Hi,

I'm still trying to get my sisters 2013 27" iMac to play sounds.

History;
The script I'm trying works on three older Mac computers. One running Snow Leopard and the other two running 10.8.2.
I've tried "Play Sound" and "afplay", all of which work on the other computers.
All System sounds work on hers.
Have tried several System 7 Sounds and several AIFF sounds.

Today I took a SuperDuperClone of my mid 2011 27" iMac and tried to start her computer. Hoping to tell if it was hardware or software related. No luck, all I got was a circle with a slash across it. Then the computer shut down. Apparently there is a hardware difference between the two computers.

We've removed dozens of classic apps, etc. and anything else that looked suspicious.

Several calls to AppleCare.

Surely someone out there is knowledgeable enough about the inner workings to suggest a cure.

TIA,

Robert Poland - Fort Collins, CO
