I used to have about 100 pounds of Apple programming books from about 20 years ago. (I gave them away, so I can't give an accurate reference.) At that time Apple was promoting its OS as "any application can talk to any application via AppleScript". What an advantage. Look at what you can do!

Something has changed for the worse and it may not have been well thought-out.
