Really funny because, as far as I know, the formatting is ruled by the preferences file com.apple.ScriptEditor2.plist.

I am using Xcode 5.0.1 along with AppleScript Editor 2.6, and since the AppleScript formatting in Xcode is pretty much non-existent, I often open files in the AppleScript Editor (via Xcode’s “Open in External Editor”) to see if it likes the terms. I performed a clean install when updating to Mavericks so there shouldn’t be any old stuff in there, but I don’t try to run any extensions or plug-ins to the developer tools anyway.
I can’t duplicate the issue reliably, the formatting just reverts at random with the com.apple.applescript.plist being overwritten with the defaults. I can quit both Xcode and AppleScript Editor and replace the formatting file with a backup, otherwise if I lock the file to keep it from being changed some kind of caching get in the way and I have to restart or log out to get it cleared (regardless of changes to the formatting file or restarting the applications).

What version of Xcode? The current (and previous) versions don't touch the AppleScript formatting preferences (more's the pity).
