I have discovered what I believe is a bug in the Script menu in OS X 10.9 Mavericks. I'm curious to know whether others experience this, and whether there is a workaround.
Save this script as a compiled script in the User Scripts folder at ~/Library/Scripts:
display dialog "Enter some text, then use standard keyboard shortcuts to cut, copy or paste:" default answer ""
Run the script in its AppleScript Editor window, enter some text, then cut, copy or paste, and it works as expected.
Run the script from the Script menu in the menubar and repeat the test. Every time you press Command-X, Command-C or Command-V, it beeps and nothing happens. It used to work fine in previous versions of OS X.
This is a huge inconvenience for me. I have a script in the Script menu for entering keywords for photos in Aperture, but now in Mavericks I have to type the keywords for every photo instead of copying and pasting common keywords shared by all photos in a group. I can work around the bug by keeping the script's window open in AppleScript Editor and running it there, but that has other drawbacks. I could probably also run it as a stay-open applet, but again it is more convenient to run it from the Script menu.
Any workaround for the Script Menu? Ah, I found a substitute: Red Sweater's FastScripts 2.6.5 works correctly. |
