Doug Crockford's "_javascript_: The Good Parts"[1] might be a good option

Nope.

People in my profession call this "a teachter-talk" book = it'll impress other experts of the same level with its accuracy, but is useless to those looking to climb the ladder. Pedagogical value is not the same as technical expertise; a point which also applies to your general take on the JXA wiki I linked to.

Schumacher might have been a great driver; it doesn't mean he would have made a great driving instructor.

Best

And don't look past David Flanagan's _javascript_: The Definitive Guide (O'Reilly, 2006).
It is a reference style book very helpful to those of use who are already coders and want to know the specifics for _javascript_.
It is over 900 pages (first 200 of which dedicated just to the language itself, with the remainder on usage in the context of web development), and I got the 5th edition used via Amazon for $5.
