* Are you using the Script Libraries facility (not Script Debugger libraries or "load script" libraries)?
No. * If you're not using Script Libraries, is there any particular reason?
Can’t use it on older Mac OS X versions, where the majority of my scripts are currently run. * Do you know how to set up Script Libraries and use them in your scripts?
Yes. The WWDC 2013 video was very helpful. * Do you think you would be more likely to use ASObjC if you could include it directly in your scripts (perhaps confined to handlers or sections of code), or would it not make any difference?
Yes, more likely. * If you were to be granted one AppleScript-related wish, what would it be?
Like many others I’d like to see more applications supporting AppleScript, especially some from Apple. But I think we must acknowledge the last decade has shown us this is unlikely to happen. Perhaps the process is so difficult that developers need help adding AS support. I can’t think it is all due to lack of awareness.
But here is a recent comment from one developer who has long given his programs some AS support: "I honestly doubt if most Mac apps going forward will support or even care about the OSA. It’s mostly invisible to Mac developers, from what I can see."
I know at one time people at Apple wanted to make it easier for developers to support AS. I don’t know if any work was done on that.
Given the lack of awareness and support, I wish there were some almost-open-source way for members of the community to help add AS support for needed apps. How many of us would be willing to spend some time developing AS support for Preview? Yes, I know there are security issues, other technical challenges and have no idea how it could be done without developers giving some an inside look at their apps. Just dreaming.
