I've got a MacPro1,1 running 19.9.3 Mavericks.

I used the Firewire install method. My attempts to create a USB install key and modify it were not successful... part of me wants to attempt that again...
In short the system has a "small hack", with the boot.efi being replaced in 2 x directories.
Another plist is modified to include the system board ID.

Key thing is that you may need to replace the graphics card.
