Incidentally, there's a new general purpose editor available in the App Store called 'Peppermint', which I believe uses exactly the method I described above to compile and run AppleScripts.
You won't get the same kind of feedback as in ASEditor (precisely for the reasons Shane said, you need the AE descriptors for that), but it doesn't do a bad job and is also great for running live bash scripts, c source files or objective-c command line programs (among about 50 other languages it can handle).
