In reference to things I've said both on and off-list, Shane variously states:

Spare us the hubris, will ya.

Not so fast...

Slow down your pony there, buddy...

Funny, I still don't feel that even after your lengthy, ahem..."exposition"...

And from the other day, also directed at myself:

Well, like I said, you're way off base with that.

So before I get to the replies, I'd rather just say "Sigh. Yawn. I wish you'd cut out mis-characterisations of other people's competence, underestanding and integrity, not only because your off-base in this particularly instance but also because its mildy offensive and totally unnecessary regardless.

And here's why your insults are totally off-base:

First, I picked the shell script example precisely because it returns a C-string. There's no "bug" in it at all. I picked the the vanilla AS code precisely because it strips the null terminus, and I picked NSString precisely because NSString will wrap whatever you put in it, and if you don't know what's in it at run-time you''ll have to code around that.

THAT WAS THE POINT: "some things are easier to do in AS than in Objective-C". This had nothing to do with AS vs ASObjC at all.

I'm fully aware that the code needs to be stripped if you want to compare the string and AGAIN THAT WAS THE POINT: you have to do it manually in Cocoa/Objective-C and you don't have to do it manually in AS.

The misunderstandings are yours, I'm afraid.

Best

Phil
