Oh come now, Hengist has been bitter from the very beginning. ;)
I always enjoy Hengist's posts. Generally, I find them informative and entertaining (AKA "a good read"), though I thought this one was bit OTT with the name-calling at times.
Still, to the point: we can all speculate on AS's future till the cows come home (maybe another 20 years, we'll still be having this conversation, fingers-crossed), but I think this point really needs hammering home to Apple at every opportunity:
its *own authors* don't even care enough to use it themselves.
The point is much more general than AppleScript libraries. What about scripting dictionaries for Apple's own "major" apps? It's heartbreaking that both Preview and Safari still don't have (and don't now look like they ever will have), fully developed scripting dictionaries.
And as for the fact that MS Office for Mac is more comprehensively AppleScriptable than iWorks, well, that's just shameful.
Who knows if they're listening but aside from filing BRs/ERs and (now) PRs...there's always Apple Feedback:
