However, I’ve found numerous problems converting some of the more complicated scripts to Javascript. Admittedly, the JSA documentation is somewhat lacking at this point and I may have been trying to do things incorrectly. But there have also been some performance issues working with larger data sets. I will be following more bug reports when I’ve collected enough “evidence,” and I am hopeful, if not confident, this will all work out in the end. But for the moment, AS is a more solid implementation with good documentation (of the language itself), plenty of examples available on the Net, and great support from knowledgeable people on this list, in the archives and interactively. I say this while afflicted with an acute dislike of AS. At the same time, the better part of that dislike is not so much with the language itself (yech!) but the dearth of explanations and examples in the dictionaries. It is only recently that Apple has started to add minimal examples to the dictionaries of some applications, and I’m hoping that will improve quickly, with other vendors following suit. Eventually, I hope to convert everything over to JSA and be free of AS. But realistically, I’ll be coding AS for awhile yet.

Yes, examples in dictionaries! A large part of my time writing applescripts is spent searching the internet for correct syntax examples.
