I for one would be very happy if this sub-thread died here and now. It serves no purpose and will only make things worse.

Ah, that would be my fault, then. My apologies for creating an OT subthread, but the thread itself doesn't seem to have run out of informative content.
I can't help taking what has says with a wide grin or resist taking an occassional poke at his tone, but at the same time I appreciate the very informative/technical points that get smattered in and among the invective.
