I tried your script exactly, and when the volume isn’t busy it works perfectly. But if I start a TM backup before executing the script then it won’t eject and instead after TM is done backing up the icon next to the volume name just keeps turning around (2 arrows in a circle), no end.

What did I do wrong?

You need to add what you want to happen where it says "-- do stuff here". I'm not sure how you want to use this snippet. If you don't know when the TM backup is likely to finish, you probably need it in some sort of repeat loop.

You need to explain if there's some script before it, or how you trigger it, before we can give you any further suggestions.

Also, is the TM volume a network volume?
