Timings in editors are skewed. Because osax commands involve Apple events, and because editors have extra code to enable logging of Apple events, there's considerable potential for inaccuracy. Hence my use of an applet. I don't think how it's timed makes much difference; the main thing is relative times. But I suspect large numbers of iterations can cause other subtle memory effects. AppleScript is a strange beast.
