Timeout Not Working As Expected

This never times out:
with timeout of 5 seconds
do shell script "/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin imacros://run/?m=Current.iim"
end timeout
I understand that I am opening Firefox and if I do the same thing manually via the terminal, I have to quit Firefox before control will return to the command line. But why doesn't Applescript give up after 5 seconds?
