Hmm... You're right.
Odd. I tested it and produced no saved file earlier - or so I thought. (Probably user-error.) Anyhow - your snippet shows exactly the same behavior - works with 2011 but doesn't create the file with 2016 plus shows the "Document not saved." error when trying to resave the file manually...
That is a bummer. I hope there is a bug-reporting mechanism for Office 2016.
