I tested that, and it works fine on my 10.11.1 system.
As well, testing for the existence of folders need not be done Apparently the make new mailbox command fails silently if there is a mailbox (or mailboxes) already extant at the given path.
Not necessary.
If it was to be used it should be as string or as unicode text.
