Hi Steve
I tested it also with 10.6.8 (still my favorite os) and can confirm your result.
The event log shows correct functioning, but the messages do not match the 3 second interval.
I tried to change some code lines (ie. to put the try-statement further down) or change some integers, but to no avail

My only guess: display alert does not stop the script running while displaying the message...
