disregard that one :-/
it only counts the files containing it not the content, sorry
Have you tried Spotlight?
mdfind -count “sometext” -onlyin ~/somedirectory/
Not sure how you can limit it to search a single PDF but it should be fairly simple to move the file into an empty temporary directory beforehand

Hi Guys,Can anyone recommend a simple way to search an Acrobat PDF file for a given text string and report back how many times that string appears in the PDF?I know this sounds like a newbie question but I can't seem to get my head around the solution. I'm scripting in Acrobat 11.0.12 on a Mac running OS 10.8.5 using Applescript v2.5.1I've been trying both Acrobat and Skim with no luck so far. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.Regards, Steve Steve McCarthy Bloomberg Media Group
