I presume you're using ANY, and yes that's a global OR.
Unfortunately you can't group (this AND that) OR (that thing AND the other thing).
This Spotlight search in the Finder isn't a great example (I'm tired), but it does show significantly better UI and more sophisticated filtering.

Oops, I read too quickly. [begin HS] Apple isn't very good for Search tools. In fact, they are very bad. Ever tried to search something in iTunes or Apple Music ? They require exact match.
If you make a typo you will get nothing. Often when I search something I'm not sure of the name spelling so I begin with a search in DuckDuckGo to check the spelling before searching in Apple stores. In sites designed to sell products it's really awful. [end HS]
