I guess I'm missing something. Isn't the absence or presence of a single tag called "Yes" a binary switch?

Well, yes I suppose, but yes/no was just the simplest example. Another set I actually used for a while was labels for Source, Draft, Final, Cleaned, Delivered, Archived. Any given file could only have one status (or none), which was exactly what I needed. Certainly there are workarounds to achieve the same result, but they're more complicated.
