Script Debugger seems really nice, but is expensive considering I don’t do scripts for commercial gain. If I did, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. But I’ll try it out and maybe I’ll be persuaded.

Hi David,
I have to agree with Steve. Debugger will spoil you completely and working without it becomes unthinkable. At $199 I think it's a bargain, considering the amount of frustation it will save you. Its capabilities run broad and deep. The more time you spend using Debugger, the more time you'll save—and the more you'll enjoy it.
Of course, there's also a place for Script Editor, Satimage's Smile, and Shane's ASObjC Explorer. But Debugger is the favorite tool in my toolbox.
