OCR a PDF

Can anyone advise on a tried and true method of performing OCR from Applescript?

PDFPen pro isn't as reliable as Adobe Acrobat XI's engine, and scripting Acrobat's ocr doesn't seem to be able to be triggered by a folder action script. So there's my dilemma.
