First, AFAIK, there is no good search engine for the AppleScript Users List.
Amazing, isn't it?  No, it's appalling!

With respect to your MS Word task, I'd suggest two things:

  1. Upgrade to MS Word 2011, at least for this task.
  2. Use MS Word VBA, which is much more powerful, and easier to use than AppleScript for working on a Word document.
    • If need be, you can call a VBA macro from AppleScript.
    • There are many, many VBA examples available.  Most of the ones written for Windows VBA will also work with Mac VBA.

Best Regards,

Subject: Word script

First of all, new member here. Is there a way to search this list? I wouldn't be surprised if the answer to my question is in here somewhere but how would I find it?

I have a little experience with Applescript but am fairly handy with Automator. I want to create a script to use with Automator with the following result:

I want to pass a batch of text documents (opened in Automator with the "Open Word Documents" action) to the script which would in turn tell Microsoft Word (2008) to set the style of the text in the documents to Normal.

In Word, there is a command called "NormalStyle" which can be assigned a keyboard shortcut. But how can I get Applescript to recognize it, as well as apply it to several documents at the same time?

My goal is to standardize the text in the documents to the Normal style as I've defined it.
