Have you tried Nigel's trick:

>   do shell script "asprefs=$(defaults read com.apple.applescript) ; defaults write com.apple.applescript \"$asprefs\""

The other thing is to try to avoid it happening by not choosing Open Dictionary or compiling scripts with incorrect app names. Easier said than done, I know.
