I’ve been a Home Automation hobbyist for 20+ years, with a system based on the Mac program XTension, which is totally AppleScript-driven.

The problem with HA in general—what has kept it from going mainstream—is that programming things to behave the way you want is hard. For me and quite a few others, AppleScript was an enabling technology.

Now it seems to be dawning on Apple that Home Automation is going to be a big market. As I’ve been saying for years, the company has the basis for a killer HA system in Automator. Enhancing it to make it easy to set up scripts to control your system could break the logjam. I don’t know why they can’t see this.

I’m worried.
