So how does that work? I don’t see “vtmp” defined in File Commands enumerations (or “temp”, for that matter), only the ‘temporary items’ constant.
Once I started looking through that Folders.h file, I knew I’d seen this list before. Applescript seems to have a detrimental effect on one’s memory…or maybe it’s just me.
Later this afternoon it came back to me. I knew about these when I first learned AppleScript from Bill Cheeseman’s book ‘AppleScript 1-2-3’. Bill lists most of them in Chapter 5, ‘Special Folders List’. I’m sure Bill won’t mind me quoting the opening paragraph to that section:
“Each special folder is tagged by the operating system with its own unique four-character code and often with its own enumeration constant. The code or the constant is used by the path to command to locate a specific folder.”
I remember now using these quite a bit when I was first experimenting with AS, yet when Deivy brought this up the other day - whoosh, not even a faint ping of recognition.
‘Bout the only thing worse than not knowing something is not remembering something you once knew. Glad this discussion came up, not least as it reminded me to review some of the basics.
Best
