Wrong. Opening from the Applications > Utilities folder menu from the dock with shift down doesn’t make any difference, but opening the Applications/Utilities folder in the Finder and Shift-double-clicking on Script Editor does let it open successfully. (And then when I quit, I can reopen it normally.)
