The comments are already impressive, and confirms a long-held observation of my own. While the active users on this list should be applauded for helping others, participants here really aren't a representation of the AppleScript community at large. There are so many “scripters in isolation” (as I call them) building great automation schemes for their companies or their own use.
As Sal states in his article, the different between app extensions and user automation is huge. Extensions have to appeal to mass audiences, and then still require users to jump through little hoops of UI to help save a few steps. With User Automation, the potential is huge. We can make a computer do *exactly* what we need it to do to automate a workflow or task. It is what we all want computing to be about.
User automation may be more important to large companies now than when it helped AppleScript make the leap into OS X. The difference may be that those companies are no longer important to the behemoth that is now Apple.
