I figured this out just about an hour ago – pretty damn close to the time you posted this.

So the situation isn't so dire as it looked.

All I have to do with my failing scripts is join the arrays using arrayName.join('\n') to return a string to AppleScript.

There may be missing values that are turned into blank lines, so it's necessary to clean it up a trifle – but this isn't hard to work with.

Nevertheless I'll file a bug.
