Mail fullscreen mess in HS

High Sierra's Mail is broken beyond anything imaginable when it comes to flag
setting and shortcuts setting.

In Sierra I used Mail shortcut modifications in System Preferences to set flags
by accessing menu items under Message > Flag > ... and I had created smart
boxes (Mail has flag ...) with names related but not similar to the various
flags to be able to do the same with Mailbox > Go to favorite mailbox > ...

For ex, I'd have a Ctrl-J to go to the "_Jobs" smart box and a Ctrl+Alt+J to
set the "Jobs" flag. I was *very* happy with that setup.

In High Sierra, the whole thing won't work:

1) flagging a mail does not reliably make it displayed in the related smart box
(need to rebuild the mail box once in a while)

2) fullscreen Mail does not reliably recognize Mail shortcuts specified in
System Preferences

I've found that applescripting the flagging brought some reliability to the
display. I've created 9 small applications, one for each flag and one for
clearing the flags. I call the apps from Spotlight with names easy to recall
and fast to type (@Jobs, which is proposed right after I hit @j), so that's a
good enough workaround even if it adds a lot of manipulations (Ctrl+Space to
get Spotlight, @j to get the application, Enter to launch).

For moving to the various favorites boxes (the only way I found to get the
Message Viewer to move to a specified mail box, I think I discussed that here
in the past), there are the "original" Cmd+1 ... Cmd+9 that do work nicely, but
without the favorites bar displayed they require me to remember what is behind
Cmd+1 etc. So I thought about a way to script that, just like I did for the
flag setting.

Problem is, there does not seem to be a way to specify the mail box to display
with Mail's dictionary and it does not seem possible to use UI scripting when
an application is in full screen, since the main menu is not available...

Do the super experts here have suggestions ?

Jean-Christophe
