I regularly use a script with Numbers 2.3 (iWork ’09) which sets the
font name, font size, alignment, format, and text wrap of ranges of
cells. I've just tried it with Numbers 5.1 and it still works in those
respects. Text color, background color, and vertical alignment also seem
to work in both versions. Width and height are properties of columns and
rows respectively. It's possible to merge and unmerge ranges of cells.

In Numbers 5.1's dictionary, a 'text item' has background fill type,
opacity, reflection showing, reflection value, and rotation properties,
but I can't immediately see what a 'text item' is, other than it's "A
text container".

There's no way in either version to fool around with cell borders (other
than merging).
