  • Thread-topic: InDesign Data Merge Text Insertion Point

Hello Everyone,

I just updated my Applescript Users account to a new email address, so if this
was posted previously I apologize -

I am trying to write a script that does a data merge of placeholders to text in
an InDesign document. On the web I’ve found examples of scripts that merge text
data with placeholders, but they don’t leave the formatting as it is in the
original document. What I manually do now is take a customer document with text
already in it, select the text, and merge it with a placeholder in the “Data
Merge” tab. I need a script equivalent of this process. The main problem is the
scripts I have found can’t assign the same insertion point as the original
text, so the text flow gets screwed up. Is there a way to find a word’s
insertion point?

Thank you.
