Getting iOS Device Serial Number from Mac OS

I’m trying to get the serial number of an iOS device attached to the USB port.
The System Information app returns a UDI for devices on USB ports, but not the
device’s serial number. I figured that I could probably script System
Information or use a shell script to get the UDI, but does anyone know of a way
to get the actual serial number from a device.
