Hi Steve,
“insertion point 1 of theWord” doesn't seem to get me data I can coerce to the
insertion point needed, and in any event, I can't figure how to isolate a word
and assign a placeholder to it.

merge text data with placeholders, but they don’t leave the formatting as it is
in the original document. What I manually do now is take a customer document
with text already in it, select the text, and merge it with a placeholder in
the “Data Merge” tab. I need a script equivalent of this process. The main
problem is the scripts I have found can’t assign the same insertion point as
the original text, so the text flow gets screwed up. Is there a way to find a
word’s insertion point?
Do you mean something other than “insertion point 1 of theWord”?
