Frankly, the future is mobile, and AppleScript isn’t even there. There’s some
effort within Apple to enhance the Shortcuts app, but it’s no AppleScript, or
even Automator.
These days, application security means avoiding these useful kinds of user
automation, since they can often be hijacked. I’m not sure how the future can
mitigate these risks. The “This app wants to control that app” dialog certainly
isn’t going to suffice.
In the meantime, either write an app for distribution and/or sale, or stitch
together some apps for a local or in-house solution. Just because it’s not the
future doesn’t mean it’s not useful right now.
