As is common with user groups, we have users with LCIIs and all sorts
of arcane gear - including one smartypants who still uses A/UX. These
people were left behind years ago and I guess there will be some left
behind now with the change from 9 to X. I'd wager that the majority of
users never update their OS voluntarily (based on my user group and
extrapolating) but do so in order to take advantage of new stuff
(usually third party apps with some requirement).
We don't focus specifically on new OSes but we report news to our users
and by necesity, 90% of that news is OSX-based. Also, we do demos but
the demos we run are also predominantly X-based because, for the
percentage of people who attend every meeting, that sort of thing is
important.
The way I see it: We're a user group. We're there for the users. We ARE
the users. If the user is running System 6 then we're there. If the
user is running an advance build of Jaguar then we're there. If he's a
weirdo who uses A/UX then we're there...
Be well,
M
