This would be my number one complaint about vendors as well, Claudia.
LCMUG has been contacted several times by very reputable, main stream,
vendors over the years (names withheld), requesting time from our MUG.
[Please note: They contacted us, we did NOT contact them.] We set it all
up, tell our members, get them all excited, publish it in our newsletter and
promote it in our private e-mail list, put it on our website ...only to have
the vendor flake out on us at the very last minute!!
This is extremely rude and unprofessional behavior, IMVHO!
Yes, they do offer to send all kinds of "stuff", but this "flaking out"
really turns people off from even wanting to use the vendors product.
If a vendor isn't planning on *honoring* their word and their commitment,
then they should not offer to visit. They expect *us* to honor our
commitment on reviews, promoting their product to the membership, and
supporting them! This is a two way street.
There is so much competition out there -- one only has to check in with
VersionTracker.com and MacUpDate.com to see all the 3rd party stuff being
released.
Same with book vendors .... there are a lot of publishing companies and
authors to choose from for resource and training material, as well as
websites and discussion lists, with Tips, etc. My favorite resource for
training is now VTC.com (Virtual Training Company)... they rock!! Their QT
movies beat the hell out of a book any day, IMHO.
Just my 2"
